Dear Colleagues,
On the behalf of the Polish Radiation Research Society
memorial to Maria Sk這dowska-Curie we would like to welcome you the XIV International
Congress of Radiation Research that would be held in: POLAND in August/September 2011
in Warsaw.
We have the privilege and honour to organize this important
international congress, in the year when we will celebrate the anniversary of one century
since Marie Sk這dowska-Curie received the second Nobel Prize in Chemistry "in recognition
of her services to the advancement of chemistry by the discovery of the elements radium
and polonium, by the isolation of radium and the study of the nature and compounds of
this remarkable element". Maria Sk這dowska-Curie (1867-1934) born in Warsaw, was the
pioneer of radiation chemistry and radiology. She was the first one of the few people
who obtained two Nobel Prizes. In the year 2011 it will also be 120 years since Maria
Sk這dowska-Curie (1867-1934) enrolled as the first woman-student at the Faculty of
Physics and Chemistry of Sorbonne in Paris.
Hosting the 14th Radiation Research Congress in the city
of Warsaw, the home town of Maria Sk這dowska -Curie, could be a good opportunity to
honour these anniversaries.
As the main venue for the Radiation Research Congress we
propose the Palace of Culture and Science. This place has been chosen for its unusual
history and its location in the heart of Warsaw, the capital city of Poland. The Palace
was a gift of the Soviet Nation for Poland in the times of Soviet domination over
Eastern Europe.
Now the Palace has been converted into a modern centre of
international events such as congresses, fairs and festivals. It is easily accessible
from every part of Warsaw, is surrounded by a number of hotels and lies only 15 - 30
minutes walking distance from the Royal Route and the Old Town. Once you come to Warsaw
you will have an opportunity to see one of the most dynamically developing European
countries with its lively cultural life, outstanding hospitality and manifold places
of tourist interest. All of that you will meet in the very centre of Europe, that is
easily accessible by airlines, trains and roads. While you are here you will surely
want to experience the local attractions. Several options will be arranged for you and
accompanying guests during the week.
We consider also that satellite symposia will be organized
in magic atmospheres of three old cities; Krak闚 in Poland, Prague in Czech Republic
and Kiev in Ukraine at the cutting-edge of basic and applied research will present
details of new technologies in medical physics and dosimetry, radiation protection
and nuclear safety, nuclear medicine and biomedical research, as they apply to the
global problem of maintaining protection of the genomic integrity and human health.
We are sincerely happy to have the honour and opportunity to welcome you to Poland.
We enthusiastically look forward to seeing you here.
